They occlude a vessel without the tissue damage teeth cause, so they are the default for haemostasis proper. The trade-off is that they can slip on slick fascia where teeth would hold.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eKelly or Crile? The Difference Nobody Explains\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThese two are the most commonly confused instruments in surgery, and they look almost identical in a catalog photograph. The difference is in the serrations.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCrile jaws are serrated along their full length.\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eKelly jaws are serrated only on the distal half\u003c\/strong\u003e, with the proximal half smooth.
