Upper molar extraction forceps, pattern 53R, for the right side of the upper jaw. The 53R has a pointed beak that engages the buccal furcation between the two buccal roots of an upper first or second molar, and a rounded beak that fits over the single palatal root.
Because upper molar roots differ between the cheek and palate sides, the beaks are not interchangeable. The 53R is used on the patient's right side and pairs with the 53L for the left. The firm grip below the crown lets the dentist luxate the tooth with controlled buccal and palatal movements before delivery.
