Sterilization Containers

Rigid sterilization containers hold instrument trays through steam sterilization, storage and transport, and keep them sterile until opened in theatre. A container is a bottom, a lid and one or more baskets; the lid or bottom is perforated to let steam in and is fitted with filters.

This collection lists container components in full, three-quarter, half and mini sizes, plus wire baskets and instrument boxes. Parts are sold individually so you can replace one damaged lid or bottom.

Perforated or Solid?

Steam has to enter the container through filtered perforations. A container usually has one perforated part (the lid, the bottom or both); a solid part is paired with a perforated one. Match the combination to your department's validated configuration.

How to Choose

Size. Full size for major trays; 3/4 and 1/2 for smaller specialty sets; mini for micro instruments.

Matching. Lid, bottom and basket must be the same size to fit together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use rigid containers instead of wrap?
They protect instruments from damage, stack well, and do not tear, reducing the risk of a compromised sterile barrier.

Do I need filters?
Yes. Perforated lids and bottoms need filters, which are replaced according to the filter manufacturer's instructions.
