Neurosurgery Instruments | Hardy Transsphenoidal | DDP Elite - Page 7 Skip to content

Neuro

Neurosurgery and spine surgery share a problem: the target is deep, the corridor is narrow and the structures along the way cannot be touched. This collection gathers the instruments built for that — microdissectors for the brain, retractors and osteotomes for the spine, and fine suction for the whole field.

More than 150 instruments are listed, including the complete Rhoton set, Hardy transsphenoidal instruments and the long Hibbs, Lambotte and Smith-Petersen osteotomes used in spinal surgery. Buy any piece individually, or ask us to quote a full craniotomy or spine tray.

Why Bayonet Instruments?

Under a microscope the surgeon looks straight down the corridor, and a straight instrument held in the hand would sit in the line of sight. A bayonet instrument has an offset shaft: the hand and handle sit to one side while the tip stays on the target. That is why so many neurosurgical scissors, forceps and scalpel handles here are bayonet-shaped.

How to Choose

Working length. 190mm is the Rhoton standard for cranial work; transsphenoidal instruments run longer (around 245mm) to reach the sella.

Tip. Round and spatula dissectors for separating planes, hooks and needles for fine arachnoid work, curettes for removing tissue.

Suction size. French gauge divided by three gives the diameter in millimetres: 3 Fr is 1mm, 12 Fr is 4mm. Finer suction for delicate work near vessels and nerves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Rhoton instruments?
A numbered set of microneurosurgical dissectors, curettes, hooks and elevators. The numbers let the surgeon ask for an instrument without looking away from the microscope. See the Rhoton collection.

What is a transsphenoidal instrument?
An instrument long and slim enough to reach the pituitary gland through the nose and sphenoid sinus.

What is a nerve root retractor?
A narrow retractor that holds a spinal nerve root aside during discectomy and laminectomy.

Related categories: Rhoton instruments, Yasargil instruments, Kerrison punches, rongeurs, osteotomes and brain spatulas.

Also for cranial and spine work: Penfield and dura dissectors, Cobb and periosteal elevators, bipolar forceps, cranial perforators and drills, bone tamps and spine retractor sets.
