Endoscopy

The parts in this collection are what turn a cystoscope or resectoscope into a working instrument: the working elements that drive the electrode, the loops and rollers that cut and coagulate, the deflectors that steer a catheter, and the cables that carry the current.

Active or Passive Working Element?

The working element is the handle mechanism that moves the electrode in and out of the sheath. On a passive element the spring holds the loop inside the sheath at rest; the surgeon squeezes to push it out, and it cuts on the return. On an active element the spring holds the loop outside at rest, and the squeeze draws it back in through the tissue.

Neither is better. It comes down to training and preference, and to matching the electrodes to the element. That is why both are listed.

How to Choose

Match the system. Electrodes, elements and sheaths are specific to Olympus, Storz or Wolf. Storz-style parts are named with the matching Storz reference number.

French size. Loops and rollers are sized to the sheath, typically 24–28Fr for adult resection.

Monopolar or bipolar. Everything here is monopolar unless stated. Bipolar loops and electrodes are listed in bipolar instruments.
