Orthodontic cutters trim archwires, ligatures and pins. The difference between them is what they cut and where: a distal end cutter reaches behind the last molar, a ligature cutter gets under a tie wire without touching the bracket, and a hard wire cutter handles stainless steel and heavy wire that would chip a lighter blade.
This collection lists the cutters alongside the pliers and removers they are used with. Order single instruments, or send your list for a quote.

Wire type. Light round wire for light wire cutters; stainless and rectangular wire for hard wire cutters.
Location. Distal end cutters for behind the last molar; fine-tip ligature cutters between brackets.
Safety hold. For any cut inside the mouth where the offcut could be lost, choose a safety-hold cutter.
What is a distal end cutter?
A cutter with angled blades that trims the end of an archwire behind the last bracket or tube, usually with a safety hold to retain the offcut.
Can a ligature cutter cut archwire?
No. Ligature and pin cutters are for fine tie wire. Use a hard wire or distal end cutter for archwire.
