Luxator or Elevator?
A luxator has a thin, sharp blade that is worked into the periodontal ligament space to sever fibres and loosen the root with minimal bone loss. An elevator is sturdier and is used as a lever to lift the loosened tooth or root. Atraumatic extraction, especially before implant placement, usually starts with luxators.

Which periodontal probe should I use?
Use the probe that matches your charting protocol. UNC 15 is marked every millimetre; Williams is marked at 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm.
